While trying to evade the perpetual construction and the ensuing traffic on Ward St., I ran into this very clean Mercury Comet station wagon. Dancing around the traffic, I tried to capture the impressive lines and smooth styling. At the time I didn’t know what a jewel I was looking at. It turns out that Mercury only made 1,592 Villager wagons that year. It came equipped with a 289 c.u. 4 valve mill that generated 225 horses and a standard 4 barrel carb. You put the rubber to the road with a 3 speed Merc-O-Matic transmission. I especially liked the white walls and chrome lug nuts. Just the thing for hitting the beach, car camping or a leisurely drive up the East Side. Watch out for this one though it just might beat you off the line. (Click on photo for larger image)
